Common mistake: Many people confuse kippah size with head circumference. If your head circumference is 57 cm (average adult), your kippah size is approximately 19–20 cm. The circumference of a 19 cm kippah is about 60 cm — these are very different measurements.
1
Lay a tape measure flat across the top
Place a flexible tape measure flat across the top of the kippah dome, touching both edges at the widest point.
2
Read the measurement in cm
The distance from one edge to the other — measured in centimeters — is the kippah size. This is the diameter.
3
Don't have a kippah to measure?
Most adult men fit 19–21 cm comfortably. Order 19 cm when uncertain — it's the most common size by far.
4
Bar mitzvah boys
Younger teens (12–13) typically wear 17–18 cm. Measure an existing kippah they currently wear if possible.
